I was watching adult swim tonight and realized something. I remember seeing Evangelion when it first came out on tape. And I have a couple of tapes from the collection. Also, I had not seen Trigun in a while. Is it me, or does anime seem that anime that is a few years old........LOOK old and grainy looking? When I first saw these anime they seemed crisp and new! The same with The Slayers. I have the same tapes and rewatched them, they seemed old and grainy now too. I am curious if it was a matter of technology then couldn't make clear pictures as now? Or if cartoons we watch now and is new as far as anime or even american cartoons such as SpongeBob and Invader Zim will look old and dated as far as quality?
The new anime coming out on Adult Swim Eureka Seven or Eleven can't recall at the moment. Looks crisp and clear. Is this because we see it as a new anime so we look at it without any prejudice, and 7 years from now itll look oldish and grainy, because we didn't want to see that it WAS grainy in the first place? Or is it actually crisp and clear? Or perhaps it is just because they play whatever they have over and over and it wears out.
Just some deep thinking I was doing.

Yes! Trigun seems to be grainy ish, along with the other mentioned. Not sure how old each of them are, but on the newer animes..seems like they are using brighter colors...definately some sort of better technology there. One day (before my color died on my mac) I was looking at comparisons of the American and Japanese releases of the same anime screen shots..it seemed that the Japanese version has a brighter crisper look. And the American was slightly more faded. Why would it be differnt in color though? i dunno...lol...id like to know what the technogoly is they are using now a days though to make it look better more and more...

also.. I remember seeing a site, a long time ago..about how to make a real (good enough for tv) looking anime. They said something about how much one that looks about how Ghost in the Shell costs, and then another one..but cant remember the name but it was a lot cheaper. Ghost in the shell isn't grainy at all, very bright and bold and very good quality all around. So maybe these companies also have a budget...maks sense....

Yes, christain ready answer army really IS the reason anime looks older.
qqq needs to burn at the stakes. <.<
Anyways, it's pretty much just A, as we go forward, technology get's better, and B, time takes it's toll on the current things. And enhancements can only go so far without havign the original to redo everything.
